Abstract

This article presents some initial findings of a study being conducted by the Centre for Modern Language Teaching (CMLT) at Queen's University, Belfast, into the use of German as the main teaching medium in fourth form and fifth form classes in grammar schools. It focuses particularly on pupil perceptions of the use of German in the classroom and relates these perceptions to their preference for either English or German for various content areas of the lesson.
