Abstract

N INCREASING amount of information concerning the war work and present status of German geographers is becoming available in the United States. This paper is a preliminary review of a part of this material.' While in Germany between March and December of I945, the authors visited universities, civil and war agencies, and private geographical institutions. They interviewed many German geographers, including Credner, Troll, Meynen, Pfeifer, Reinhard, Schmieder, Hannemann, and Drygalski. In Part I Mr. Smith illustrates the war work of German geographers by describing three leading war agencies. In Part II Mr. Black shows developments in German geography since VE-day.
