Abstract

Patterns of regional vertical variation of present-day subsurface temperatures, gradients, and heat flows have been mapped on the basis of down-hole measurements. Paleothermal conditions associated with important tectonic elements and oil-gas bearing complexes were determined from vitrinite reflectivity studies. Geotemperature boundaries, hypsomet-ric position, and stratigraphic position of the “oil window” were estab-lished.
