Geostatistics in hydrology

Abstract

A special symposium on geostatistics in hydrology was held during the 1987 AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco. The symposium was organized jointly by the Groundwater Committee and the Surface Runoff Committee of AGU's Hydrology Section. The objective of the symposium was to provide a forum for workers active in the hydrologic application of geostatistical theory and methods. The symposium was organized into one morning session of oral presentations and two afternoon sessions, (one poster and one oral), held on the same day. A total of 16 oral and 13 poster papers were presented. The morning session was chaired by Peter K., Kitanidis (Stanford University, Stanford, Calif.), and the afternoon sessions were chaired by Oktay Guven (Auburn University, Auburn, Ala.). The papers covered a wide range of topics including geostatistical analyses of data, stochastic analyses of flow and transport in porous media, optimization of sampling strategies, and new geostatistical methods.
