Abstract
The article deals with the 75th birthday of the Director of the State Institution “The Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”, Honoured Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, winner of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and engineering, corresponding member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Science, Professor G.V. Gayko.

Summary
21 грудня 2011 року виповнилося 75 років директорові ДУ «Інститут травматології та ортопедії НАМН України», заслуженому діячеві науки і техніки України, лауреату Державної премії України в галузі науки і техніки, члену-кореспонденту НАМН України, доктору медичних наук професору Георгію Васильовичу Гайку — чудовій людині, прекрасному лікарю-митцю, науковому керівникові, мудрому наставнику і вчителю. У 1968 році він успішно захистив кандидатську дисертацію з проблеми хірургічного лікування наслідків поліомієліту. У 1984 році захистив докторську дисертацію з одної із найскладніших проблем — ускладнень та наслідків гематогенного остеомієліту у дітей та підлітків.
