The name of Gilles de la Tourette is well known by the eponym. The tormented life of the man, Georges, is not. Exploring family archives, kept in a museum in Loudun (Vienne, France) highlights ignored facets of this engaging personality. We present here his family archives, his education and career, his assassination attempt in 1893, a scandal in the press in 1901, his illness with letters and documents from these archives remained unpublished until now.
