Abstract

Abstract This chapter elaborates on the concept and history of geopolitics across the world. It discusses a conceptual framework concerning the relationship between geopolitical practice and the climate crisis. Geopolitics addresses what people on the Earth have created, and what people and Earth make together. The chapter then presents four understandings of geopolitics by referencing the theories and works of several prominent figures, including Rudolf Kjellén, Friedrich Ratzel, and Henry Kissinger. It explains how the contemporary climate emergency has provoked new forms of critical geopolitical thinking while also prompting renewed interest among prominent intellectuals in the history and meaning of geopolitics.
