Abstract

SEG members can be proud of the journal Geophysics, which continues to have a high impact factor. At the SEG Annual Meeting in Anaheim, editor Valentina Socco reported an ever-increasing number of submissions to Geophysics. In the last 12 months, there were 867 submissions with an acceptance rate of 53%. Because of the high volume and the extra work on the editors, the turnaround time to first decision has increased somewhat to 58 days. Socco personally looks at every paper that is recommended for acceptance, and the team of editors works to ensure high-quality papers and a constructive review process. Starting in January 2018, the submission and review process was made double-blind to reduce bias, and the system has worked smoothly.
