Abstract

We start the new year with a bang. There are only two Bright Spots candidates in this smaller issue, but where quantity eludes us this month, quality does not. Du, Fowler, and Fletcher present Recursive integral time extrapolation methods for waves: A comparative review. The authors compare several families of algorithms that compute recursive integral time extrapolation (RITE) for isotropic and anisotropic models. The algorithms under consideration are mixed space/wavenumber domain operators derived from Fourier integral solutions of single-mode equations. Such mixed domain operators can accurately simulate wave extrapolation with little numerical dispersion, even when using larger time steps.
