Abstract

The Geodesy/Solid‐Earth and Ocean Physics research conferences are established to stimulate interdisciplinary research in the fields of geodesy, solid‐earth and ocean physics within universities, research foundations, industrial and governmental organizations. This is to be achieved by an informal type of meeting consisting of invited speakers and a discussion panel supplemented by a small number of contributing speakers, when sufficient time is available to stimulate discussion among the members of each conference. This type of meeting is a valuable means of disseminating information and ideas to an extent that could not be achieved through the usual channels of publication and presentation at scientific meetings. In addition, scientists in these related fields become acquainted, and valuable associations are formed that often result in collaboration and cooperative efforts.
