Abstract

The study of aerial photographs and field checks has enabled to classify the area into 7 geomorphic units : the first 3 being structural hills of high relief, denudational hills of moderate to high relief and denudational hills of low to moderate relief. The other four are the zone of scarp retreat, piedmont zone, plantation surface of monogenetic/polygenetic origin, and alluvial plains and depositional terraces. The descriptive details of these geomorphic units and their genetic significance have been discussed. Some new field data regarding neotectonism is also presented. The origin of a chara cterstic short double loop of the Chenab river, near Dhiangarh has also baen explained through structural control.
