The preamble outlines the concept of a “geomodel” and its depiction in simplified block diagrams is useful for the engineering geologist and geotechnical engineer. The geomodel approach was developed in the UK because of the popularity of Fookes’ Glossop Lecture before the Engineering Geology Group of the Geological Society of London, which was subsequently published as Fookes (1997).
