Abstract

The three-dimensional discordia plane is geometrically derived from basic assumptions. It is shown that the projections of data which are located on a plane in xyz-space onto the three coordinate planes yield different informations: the projection from the common lead point yields the discordia line, the yz-projection the lead-lead isochron plot and the xz-projection the 206Pb- 238U isochron plot. Also discussed is the possibility to extend the Wetherill-discordia plot into three dimensions including the initial lead.
