Abstract

Abstract Urban geology is not a discipline, as such, but, rather, involves the deployment of the full range of relevant geoscience techniques to urbanized areas. Geoscience issues relevant to megacities and urban areas are essentially the same as those experienced elsewhere but their effects are often greater. Many, if not all, of the papers presented at the IAEG 2006 Congress were, thus, relevant to a greater or lesser degree, and provide a rich source of varied case studies. This paper reviews some important cross-cutting issues, making particular reference to the contributions to the Congress.
