Abstract

Summary The Kerpini Fault Block is a rotated fault block within the Gulf of Corinth rift system that exposes outcrops of syn-rift strata. The lithology of the fault block is composed of fluvial-alluvial deposits with an uncertain relation to the fault movement. Previous studies ( Ford et al., 2013 ; Syahrul et al., 2014 ) of the fault block has raised questions regarding the fault-offset and sedimentation interaction, and the development of the Kerpini Fault itself. The emphasis of the project will be on geological mapping and facies interpretation of a proposed alluvial fan deposit and mapping of the Kerpini Fault. This project will generate new insight into the geological evolution of the Kerpini Fault Block, contribute to the understanding of the displacement of the Kerpini Fault and the general understanding of syn-rift sedimentation in half-graben systems. In addition to extensive field work and interpretation of field data, structural and facies models will be created using Petrel. The objective of the modelling is to create different structural scenarios and investigate how they interact with the proposed alluvial fan deposits. The data for the project will be collected during two field trips, these data will later be used as input in the models.
