Abstract
A new site was selected in this research for solid waste disposal in Makkah Al Mukaramah. The site is situated in Wadi Malakan, south of Makkah. The new site is a replacement of the present site at Al Moesam, since it is more economical and have enough capacity for the coming 10 years. The site was studied in term of geology, geophysics, environmental aspects, and was further supported by field and laboratory tests with more emphasis on the engineering studies. The research deals with the type of waste and their expected volume and hence the site age was calculated. The research outlined the suitability of the site to isolate the pollutant from the surrounding areas, estimate the flood potential and the site design to protect the site bottom, cells, and the middle and top layers, and suggest an appropriate method to get rid of the dangerous gases to reduce or prevent the environmental hazards that may effect the safety of people.
