Abstract

The Cristalina dome is located in sout heastern of the State of Goias and is made up of rocks of the Canastra, Parana and Macaubas Groups. Phyllites of the Canastra Group were thrust from west to east upon rocks of the Macaubas Group. Thus a sequence of allochtonous phyllites Canastra lies in contact with tillites and varvites Macaubas, in obvious tectono-metamorphic contrast, interpreted as an overthrust fault or nappe. The phyllites of the Canastra Group display folds related to three phases of deformation while metarhythmites of the Paranoa Group display folds to one phase of deformation only, thus defining their relative stratigraphic positions. The tillites and varvites of the Macaubas Group provide evidence for the existence of an Upper Protetorozoic (950 Ma) glaciation.
