Abstract

Geographies of Tourism: European Research Perspectives maps out the past and present of the tourism geography (geographies of tourism) field in different European contexts by moving beyond the most visible English-language contributions in the Anglo-American literature. It also reviews different regional and linguistic research traditions and their historical trajectories, as well as commenting on the personal experiences of tourism geographers working in different European cultural and linguistic domains. Several internationally-renowned tourism geographers share their knowledge of research and publishing in their respective regional contexts, in addition to an insightful overview chapter by one of the founding editors of the journal Tourism Geographies. The volume provides a glance at a future scenario with increased complementarity between research activity conducted in different languages in the field and more dialogue and quality knowledge exchange between researchers across cultural spheres. To the editors’ knowledge, this is the first volume in its field to debate and contrast regional approaches across geographical, linguistic and cultural domains representing a positive step towards highlighting less-dominant voices in research and publishing in the field of geographies of tourism / tourism geographies.
