Abstract

Geographical indications (GI) are considered as a means of individualizing goods. The concept, essence, nature, types of identification and distinctive features of GI are disclosed. Their ability to simultaneously provide an increase in all components of sustainable development of agricultural regions is noted. The analysis of the submitted applications and issued certificates in Russia for appellations of origin of goods and geographical indications by the number, affiliation of applicants, regions and types of goods. The possibility of the region in registering the verbal designation “Altai buckwheat” as a geographical indication has been substantiated. To increase the sustainability of the development of regions of agricultural specialization, the main conditions for the implementation of the concept of geographical indications are determined. A universal algorithm for registration and use of GI has been developed.
