Abstract

There are many research studies concerned with selecting the best sanitary landfill sites using geographic information systems (GIS) and multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM), taking into account many environmental such as (River, Groundwater), geological such as (Slope, Soil) social, and economic such as (City center, Villages, Road, Land use, Gas pipeline, Power line, Railway) criteria. By analyzing the data and maps in the GIS software for each criterion and using the relevance indicator, a map of the appropriate landfill sites in the study area is produced. This research aims to know the most appropriate and most used methods for calculating the weights of the criteria in previous studies and literature for selecting the best landfill sites. (MCDM) consists of several methods, the most important of which are the analytical hierarchy process (AHP), the simple supplemental weighting method (SAW), the fixed order sum method (SRS), and the ratio scale weight method (RSW). It was the best and most commonly used analytical hierarchy method (AHP).
