Abstract
The area between Endada and Bhimunipatnam, an urban expansion of the Visakhapatnam Metrocomplex Region, Andhra Pradesh, India, is mainly underlain by the Eastern Ghats of Precambrian age. Geomorphologic units delineated are denudational, colluvial, fluvial and coastal plains. Geoenvironmental appraisal has been made with respect to the geomorphologic units. Geoenvironmental hazards include soil and rock characteristics, drainage conditions, structural features, slope stability, gully erosion, beach erosion, sea spray, depth to water table and groundwater quality, which impart considerable restraints on the urbanization of the area. Effective land use management measures are suggested to avoid the adverse impacts on the area for sustainable development.
