Abstract
The litter inhabiting weevil genus Geochus Broun, of which the biology was unknown and the systematic position uncertain. has been shown bv rearinc, to be a leafminer in dead Laves on t6e forest floor. The genus may thus be placed in the flower weevil tribe Curculionini. The larval morphology of New Zealand leaf mining weevils exhibits a cline of regressive characters, culminating in Geochus. The European genera Rhamphus and Rhynchaenus are comparable.
