Abstract

The Maopengdian tin-polymetallic deposit is located in the eastern sector of northern Jiangxi Province. The geological and petrographic characteristics of muscovite granite in the deposit show that the mineralization is genetically related to the granite, which has a zircon U-Pb age of 131.5 ± 0.8 Ma, and cassiterite in the deposit has a U-Pb age of 128.0 ± 2.0 Ma (Early Cretaceous). The muscovite granite is high SiO2 (74.18 %∼80.72 %), alkaline (Na2O + K2O 4.64 %∼8.17 %), with A/CNK ratios of 1.19 ∼ 1.52. It is a potassic, peraluminous, highly differentiated S-type granite, formed by partial melting of upper crust, and it experienced significant crystallization differentiation and interaction with F-rich fluid during its evolution. Geochronology and geochemical results on magmatic rocks in northern Jiangxi Province show the Maopengdian deposit belongs to the third stage (135–120 Ma) of magmatic activity in the region, where highly differentiated, reduced S-type granites similar to the Maopengdian muscovite granite are likely to be prospective for Sn mineralization.
