Abstract
Muong‐Nong type tektites are distinct from other tektites in their shape, size, petrographical characteristics, and chemistry. Volatile elements are enriched, but other trace elements do not show large differences when compared to normal splash‐form tektites. We have analyzed nineteen Muong‐Nong type tektites for 40–50 elements. We discuss fifteen nonvolatile elements in this paper. They show that the Muong‐Nong type tektites are very restricted in chemical composition and are almost indistinguishable from the Australasian tektites. Elemental ratios calculated from the data reported here show the same genetic connection. All elementary abundances and ratios are fully consistent with terrestrial sediments. The nonvolatile elements may record more about the conditions of the origin.
