Abstract
Petrochemical properties and uranium and potassium contents of core samples for the boreholes in the Pechenga and Ricolatva regions of Kolsky peninsula are investigated. The average concentrations of uranium and potassium in gabbroes is equal to 0.4 ppm and 0.6%, in gneisses 0.5 ppm and 2.32% respectively. Heat flow from the crust by radioactive heat production in these regions is about 8.37 – 12.56 mWm −2 (0.2 – 0.3 HFU). The data obtained allow us to suppose that a significant amount of heat is generated in the upper mantle of the earth under these regions.
