Abstract

General information: The canton of Geneva, located in the southwest corner of Switzerland on the Lake of Geneva and encircled by France, has around 400,000 inhabitants. The City of Geneva, with a population of around 176,000, ranks third-largest among all Swiss cities. Today, 19 international organizations, about 170 non-governmental organizations (NGO's), 200 permanent missions of the United Nations as well as over 400 international companies are present in Geneva, making it one of the most prominent international centers. With more than 530 companies actively developing new products and innovative applications in high-technology, Geneva's economy is flourishing. In addition, Geneva is a town of the arts and culture.
