With the gradual differentiation of urban social classes and the expansion of the middle class, gentrification has presented itself in metropolises of China in the process of urban renewal. It is a process of social space reconstruction that is initiated and facilitated by the government, and participated by investors, financial institutions and the middle class together. The previous study on gentrification in China pays more attention to physical renewal, neglecting its social function.
