Abstract

The article analyzes the genre characteristics in the novel “Olga” of B. Schlink. The novel includes features of romance, detective and generation novels. The life of the main character Olga is revealed through everyday world of Germans and fits in well with a broad historical context. Author’s intention is mirrored in the novel via the imagery system, including presence of three narrators, textual montage, epistolary technique, motif of deafness with significant symbolic meaning. Contrast as a stylistic mean is realized at several levels – characters, ideas (meditative / dynamic wandering), structure.
