Abstract

In greenhouse trials, seedling emergence and leaf growth of 5 pearl millet [P. americanum] and 7 groundnut cultivars were measured at soil temp. of 7-27°C. Rate of seedling emergence varied greatly between pearl millet cultivars, but was very similar in all groundnut cultivars. In pearl millet there were strong correlations between germination rate and leaf production rate, hourly leaf extension and seedling emergence. The thermal time requirements of various processes are discussed
