Abstract

Relative transmitting abilities of dairy sires for milk yield were estimated for models with: 1) no interaction, 2) interaction of sire by herd, and 3) interaction of sire by ideal weight for breeding heifers. There was a reduction in range of relative transmitting abilities when interaction was included in the model. High correlation coefficients between estimated relative transmitting abilities from models including or ignoring interaction, however, suggested only minor reranking of sires.
