Abstract

Canine parainfluenza (CPI) virus is a negative-stranded non-segmented RNA virus of the family Paramyxoviridae. It is associated with a highly communicable respiratory disease in the dog ( Rosenberg et al., 1971 ). In a recent investigation on the biochemical characterization of CPI viruses, Yonezawa (1984) reported that there were only small differences between virulent and attenuated strains. The present study investigated the restriction patterns of DNA transcribed from virus RNA, and thus achieved differential characterization of CPI virus strains by restriction analysis.
