Abstract

This article describes a computational model of the human process of generating texts: GENNY. After an introduction to generation, the article illustrates the overall system structure with some typical output and then presents the theoretical and practical motivation for the text generator. Next, the system design and generation process are discussed with particular attention to domain independence and cross-language portability. Then system tests are discussed and the generator is evaluated with respect to current generators. Finally, future directions are suggested.
