Abstract

Genital warts are the most common of the sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Over the past 20 years there has been a dramatic increase in the incidence of this problem (Health Protection Agency (HPA), 2007). In 2006 there were 83?745 new diagnoses of genital warts (a 3% increase from 2005), in addition to 44?655 recurrent episodes and 17?821 re-registered cases (HPA, 2007). The incidence is highest among women aged 17–19 years (767 per 100?000) (HPA, 2007).
