Abstract

Statement of the Problem: Several surgical techniques have been described in the literature for genioglossus advancement in the treatment of retrolingual obstruction in obstructive sleep apnea. Multiple techniques were developed as efforts to decrease surgical complications and improve outcome. This study employs a two-piece osteotomy technique (Segmental Mortised Genioplasty), initially described by Powell & Li, et al. This technique has minimal surgical complications for genioglossus advancement and preliminary data showing significant improvement in the patient’s sleep apnea.
