Abstract

The backcross method of genetic analysis has been applied in an attempt to determine the constitution in relation to the myopia gene of different groups of men with normal vision. The findings support the view that myopia heterozygotes benefit intellectually from the presence of this factor, although in a single dose the gene has no influence on visual acuity. The data suggest that very intelligent nonmyopes have a high probability of being carriers of one myopia gene.
