Abstract

Progeny arrays derived by self‐pollinating barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) plants which differed in isozyme phenotype were assayed for enzyme systems 6‐Phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6‐PGDH), Glutamate oxalate transaminase (GOT), and Acid phosphatase (ACPH) by starch‐gel electrophoresis. The results of inheritance studies of three enzyme loci (6‐Pgdh 1, Got 1, and AcPh 1) show that progeny arrays segregate as expected for single loci with codominant alleles. Linkage tests among the three loci and with four additional esterase loci (Est 1, Est 2, Est 3, and Est 4) showed that the four loci, Est 4, 6‐Pgdh 1, Got 1, and AcPh 1 are inherited independently of each other and they are also inherited independently of the Est 2‐Est 1‐Est 3 linkage group on chromosome 3. It is concluded that the three enzyme loci 6‐Pgdh 1, Got 1, and AcPh 1 provide additional useful genetic markers for population studies in the barley species.
