Abstract

This review concerns the published transactions of the first of five scheduled conferences on genetics, held under the auspices of the Josiah Macy, Jr., Foundation. These multidisciplinary meetings were organized by ex-Macy Medical Director Frank Fremont-Smith and Chairman James V Neel, who head an impressive list of conference participants. For the reader who is not acquainted with the format of the Macy conference transactions—beware! In this particular publication you are given a box seat to watch the performance of 25 outstanding authorities in genetics and biochemistry only to find that the three-act play you are about to witness was written in a language only vaguely resembling everyday English.
