Abstract

Genetically pure seeds are important starting materials for experiments on gene structure and function. For critical experiments, seeds must be carefully tested for genetic uniformity and increased under conditions that preclude accidental contamination by alien germplasm. Seeds with missing or altered proteins may be present in agronomically pure seedlots. Such seeds, if they go undetected, may give rise to misleading experimental results.
