Abstract
Fifty-one Belding's Savannah sparrows from a small, isolated, resident population were electropho-retically surveyed for variation in serum alkaline phos-phatase, malate dehydrogenase, leucine aminopep-tidase, and esterases representing a minimum of 10 distinct loci. A large proportion of the loci sampled displayed no heterozygosity and estimates of heterozy-gosity for segregating loci were considerably lower than would be expected on the basis of Hardy-Weinberg analysis. We suggest that the breeding strategy and reduced emigration and immigration of this population bring about the observed reduction in heterozygosity.
