Abstract

BackgroundThe complex interaction of genetics, environmental, hormonal, and immunologic factors are involved in the pathogenesis of endometriosis (EMT). This study aimed to investigate the association of controversial and candidate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in IL-10 (rs1800872), TGFβ (rs1800469), FGF1 (rs34011), ESR1 (rs9340799; rs2234693), MMP1 (rs1799750), and WNT4 (rs16826658) with EMT in Iranian women with endometriosis. Materials and methodThe seven SNPs in the candidate genes were genotyped by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique in 101 individuals with EMT and 142 healthy ones as a control group. ResultsOur study revealed a significant association of the FGF1–1385 A/G genotype with the developing EMT in our population (p value = 0.041). However, no significant result was found for other candidate genotypes and alleles in susceptibility to EMT. ConclusionFGF1–1385 A/G SNP genotypes might be correlated with the pathogenesis of EMT in Iranian women.
