Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during spring season of 2015 to study the genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance of nine quantitative characters in 24 genotypes of French bean. The analysis of variance showed significant differences among genotypes for all the characters under study. Estimates of phenotypic and genotypic coefficients of variation were high for pod width, pod weight and green pod yield per plant. High heritability along with high genetic advance was predicted in case of pod weight, pod width, plant height and green pod yield, which indicated the role of additive gene action for the inheritance of these traits. Therefore, selection can be used for improving these traits.
