Abstract

In Korea, 'Campbell Early' and 'Kyoho' are the most important cultivars occupying over 80% of the market. Most grape cultivars developed in Korea have been bred from limited and popular cultivars such as 'Campbell Early', 'Himrod Seedless' and 'Kyoho'. To identify and distinguish genetic relationships among Korean released grape cultivars and their parents, SSR markers were applied and analyzed. Using ten SSR primer sets, the total number of alleles identified was 120 with the number of alleles ranging between 6 and 19. The PIC (polymorphism information content) ranged between 0.3235 (VVMD7) and 0.8724 (ssrVrZAG79). These 10 primers could be effectively used for Korean grapes (V. labruscana) identification. Neighbor-joining analysis revealed the 25 tested cultivars classified into a total of six groups. The ten selected SSR primer sets were efficient to identify Korean developed ten grapes including their parent grapes. Applying a minimum of four SSR primer combinations allowed the perfect identification of all Korean grape cultivars and their parents.
