Abstract

Two genetic markers were associated with a longer period of abstinence from alcohol use in the first 3 months of treatment with the alcohol dependence medication acamprosate, a new study has found. As this appears to be the first report showing the association of these genetic markers with the duration of abstinence in a group of alcohol‐dependent patients, this has implications for the development of personalized treatment strategies for such patients.
