Dan Hampson’s article AVO inversion, theory and practice (June 1991 TLE) describes some recent developments, particularly linearized inversion techniques and Monte Carlo methods that can be applied to the inversion of AVO data to determine rock properties. He also described the problem of nonuniqueness associated with the inversion process and pointed out that we have to think about inversion as a process that gives many reasonable answers.
