Abstract
Four mutations of phage φ80 were mapped in phage crosses in the order am32 — am2 — h- c40. In prophage crosses the same markers were mapped in the order c40 — am32 — am2 — h indicating cyclic permutation as specified by the Campbell model. Genetic exchanges between prophage markers were correlated with exchanges between bacterial markers on either side in quantitative agreement with expectations based on a linearly inserted prophage.
