Abstract

The present study pertaining to the estimation of genetic parameters and characters association in forty maize genotypes was conducted at the glasshouse of Chaudhary Agriculture farms Kasur, Pakistan, during the crop season 2010-2011. The highest genotypic coefficient of variance was found for fresh root length, the highest value of heritability was found for chlorophyll contents and path coefficient analysis showed that fresh root length had maximum direct effect on fresh shoot length followed by dry root weight, root density, leaf temperature and dry shoot weight at three moisture levels. The root length, root dry weight, root density, leaf temperature and shoot dry weight were the characters which supposed to have contribution to shoot length of maize seedlings. Selection can be made on the basis of these characters. It is suggested that the selection under the discussed traits might be useful for better yield under drought stress.
