Abstract

A comparison of homologous enzymes in mycelial extracts of 20 species of Mucor was made using starch gel electrophoresis and staining techniques for 11 different enzymes. On the basis of genetic distance, a computerized cluster analysis was used to arrange the species into groups reflecting quantitative phylogenetic relationships among the examined species Conclusions are drawn about the validity of present concepts of Mucor phylogenetics.
