Abstract

A sequence of a D-loop segment of mitochondrial DNA with the length of 558 bp was determined for 224 specimens of char (genus Salvelinus) from the Kronotskoe river-lake system, and a sequence of the cytochrome b gene with the length of 1015 bp was determined for 212 specimens of the same kind. On a joint sequence with the length of 1573 bp (1–558 bp of D-loop and 559–1573 bp of cytochrome b), 39 variable sites and 43 different haplotypes were found. Application of the variability of the mitochondrial genome to differentiation of different forms of the char living simpatrically in the Koronotskoe river-lake system was assessed.
