Abstract

Prepulse inhibition (PPI) of the startle response reflects a sensory-motor gating mechanism, and impaired PPI is a characteristic endophenotype of schizophrenia. We have previously localized quantitative trait loci (QTL) for PPI in chromosome 10 by analyzing 1,010 F2 mice derived by crossing C57BL/6N (B6) animals that showed high PPI with C3H/HeN (C3) animals that showed low PPI. However, large number of genes in the QTL hinders delineating precise role of genes in defining PPI.
