Abstract

Abstract This chapter addresses the calculation of the additive genetic relationship among individuals and how to determine the level of inbreeding. Genetic covariance between relatives, numerator relationship matrix, decomposing the relationship matrix, computing the inverse of the relationship matrix, inverse of the numerator relationship matrix ignoring inbreeding, inverse of the numerator relationship matrix accounting for inbreeding and inverse of the relationship matrix for sires and maternal grandsires are presented and discussed. An example of the inverse of a sire and maternal grandsire relationship matrix was provided.
